Did you miss me?!

Well hello there all my bloggy friends, it's been quite a while.  It's not that I forgot about you or love you any less, I've just been so caught up in everything around me lately that I seemed to have... well, simply put I got lazy and didn't write anything for the last six months.  I'm sorry, I've been a bad blog friend, but I will try to do better.

What have I been up to you ask?  Work, alot of work.  But the view is nice from the office so I don't complain too much.

Other than work, I've just been enjoying the city.  There is so much to see and do here, I think it's impossible to run out of new things.

I'm living in a little place on the edge of Chinatown.  It's nothing fancy, and not exactly cozy for guests (since there's no where for them to sleep), but it works for me right now.  I can't read the signs on my block because they're all in Chinese, but I've figured out which store is what finally.  :-) My roommate is an incredibley interesting and sweet musician and artist.

Well, that's all I've got right now, but I promise to write more often and post some of the pics I've been taking around the city!

Are you still there?

Wow, it feels like forever since I've had a chance to post!  Well, the good news is I've been busy because... drum roll please... I got a job!!!!  That's right, I'm staying right here in Manhattan because just as my money was running out and I was planning to head back to Wisconsin, I got a job offer.

Things have been crazy the last few weeks with learning all the things that go with my new position, but it's so nice to have somewhere to go every morning and actually feel like a productive member of society again.

I've decided to stay in my apartment in Chinatown so I feel like I'm finally settled in the city and really finding my groove here.

I promise I will find some time soon to write more and fill you in on all the details of what's going on.  Hope you are all doing well!

Shippin' up to Boston...

That's right folks, I will be spending this St. Patrick's Day in BOSTON!! I might not have much money, but the Fung Wah bus is only $30 round trip and I'll be sharing a hotel with some new friends so that's cheap also. I can't wait for my first trip to Boston.

Have a great holiday everyone!

The Saints Are Coming...

Last night was the best night in NYC so far!!  My all time favorite movie, Boondock Saints, had their sequel DVD release party last night in the city and I went.  Being that I know very few people here I went by myself, but met a few great girls in line at the door.  They turned out to be terrific people and I plan to hang out with them again.

If you've never seen the Boondocks Saints movie, you should get off the computer and run out to your local Blockbuster and rent it immediately.  It is a fantastic movie and the sequel was also great.

It was one of those parties where you just had to be there so I can't go into a ton of details, except to say this was an amazing group of guys and it was more like hanging out and having some beers with friends than meeting celebrity types.

We got to enjoy some comedy by Bob Marley and the bands who had songs in the movie also each played a set.  Check them out as well, these are some very unique and very very talented people.  Ty Stone and The Truth, Taylor (and Troy) Duffy, and The Dirges.

Here are a few pictures from the night, if you'd like to see me more you can see all my photos by clicking HERE.

What's not to love?

I cannot wait until tomorrow night when I will be at the Boondock Saints II dvd release party here in NYC.  I orginally saw that The Dirges posted they would be playing in the city and planned to attend.  Then I found out it was also in conjunction with one of my all time favorite movies.  A great band, a great movie, it's going to be a great night!

Something new

I learned something new today, how to wash clothes at the laundrymat!  I guess I've been spoiled because I've always had a washer and dryer in the house and never had to go out to wash clothes.  My new place doesn't have one, but luckily there is a little place right across the street.

I'll admit, I was nervous about this, strange machines that other people have used cleaning my clothes.  But after some advice from my roommate, I decided to go for it.  The fact that I am completely out of clean clothes may have had something to do with my courageousness also.

Another Day... Another Snowfall

It looked like this when I woke up this morning...

Good thing I bought these last night...

Greetings from Gotham!

Well, I still don't have a job... BUT I do have an apartment!!!  I'm moving in on Tuesday.  I am so happy to finally have at least something settled in my life.  I've committed to two months there which means I have two months to find a job.  I'm sending out resumes every day so I'm hopeful something will happen soon.

I've been so focused on the job search and apartment search that I haven't had too much time to spend enjoying the city but I plan to take time out this coming week to do some fun things.

It's been a crazy couple weeks but I am loving it here!  Updates soon!

My Birthday...

I had a great birthday today in NYC.  Still waiting to hear on the job, but I had a wonderful meal at the Russian Tea Room as a gift from my mom.

The food was excellent and the complimentary birthday champagne and candle with my cheesecake was really nice.

I'd tell you what I wished for when I blew out my candle.. but then it wouldn't come true!

Opportunites and Possibilities

I've had three interviews so far here in NYC.  The first one was for the most amazing job.  It is perfect for me and everything I've ever wanted... THE Dream Job!!!

I love this city and I do not want to leave next week.  This job would be so perfect for me I can't even describe it.  It's all I can think about.  I'm checking my phone and email every five minutes to see if they've sent me anything.

Wednesday, i trudged through the 15 inches of snow looking at neighborhoods.  6 1/2 hours in the cold and ice was not fun, but I needed to get it done.  I made it worse on myself though by taking a wrong turn and walking over two miles and somehow ended up in Hoboken when I meant to go south in Jersey City.  That was an experience.

I have another four days left here and one more scheduled interview.  This one would also be a good position with great benefits, just not THE job, but I think I would be happy with it.

I'm going to be spending the weekend hunting for an apartment share so if any of you New Yorkers know of someone looking for a roommate or to sublet, please let me know.

Hopefully I will have good news to share soon!

And around and around we go...

I have an interview... in NYC!!!  I leave in the morning, I am so nervous and excited I can hardly stand it.  This is pretty much my one shot at finding something or I am going to have to wait until next fall when I have saved up enough money to move.

At least I will be there for about 9 days so whether the job works out or not I will get some time in the city and hopefully a little time to relax.  I think job hunting, anywhere, is probably one of the most stressful things someone can go through.  You know you can do the job, it's just trying to convince someone else just from your resume that's the problem. I have sent out a couple hundred resumes in the last two month and only received two responses. It's frustrating.

Well, this time tomorrow I will be in the city.  I'm just going to try to relax and remember that everything happens the way it's supposed to.

Keep movin in 2010

We have just begun the second month of the year and I am now living in my second state this year.  2010 seems like it's going to be a crazy year, I just hope when I finally land it will be for the best.

I made the long trek from Indiana to Wisconsin and managed to get everything unpacked and mostly organized.  It's a big load off my shoulders to have that phase done and behind me.  I've been so stressed out the last couple weeks I didn't actually think I would make it here.

I've still got a ton of things to get done around here to get settled and hopefully get my SUV sold soon.  Then I will be ready to go to New York as soon as the opportunity arises.

I will be back to posting more of the My Generation Series hopefully by the end of the week.

So much to do, so little time...

I will hopefully at least get one new post up from the My Generation series next week, but my schedule as been crazy!  Between trying to organize, pack and see the people I care about here in Indy there just isn't much room to write.

The plan is now for my dad to come get me next Friday and bring all my things back to Wisconsin.  So I have just over a week to pack up my life and say good bye to everyone here, plus my part time hours at LeFab.

I will keep you all updated and will be back to regular posting once I'm settled.

In the meantime, PLEASE remember to support Ray's Candy Store.  There is a new facebook page with information on how you can help.  http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php?gid=249849346380&ref=search&sid=657111507.1156421844..1

Times they are a changin...

Well, I never thought I would say this, but in a few weeks I will be heading back to Wisconsin.  It's not something I ever planned on or wanted but at this point it's my best option.

I have a better chance of finding a job there, at least until I can find something in New York.  And I can live rent free with my wonderful mom.  I will actually be able to continue to save a little money instead of having to spend all I've tried to save to go to NYC.

I'm not giving up, I'm just changing the path slightly.  The destination is still the same... Wish me luck!

I'm goin out...

What a week! I spent nine, count em nine, hours yesterday shopping for a dress to wear to AJ's banquet Friday night. I found the perfect dress, and stupid Macy's refused to sell it to me because some of the beads had fallen off. It was crushed.

So, two more hours this morning and I have a fabulous dress and hot hot hot shoes! He's wearing a tux, so what I had in the closet definately would not have worked.

I'm going to try to get some sleep tonight, I think I've managed about four hours in the last two days. Then the banquet tomorrow.

I will try to post some pics on Saturday!

1:30am - shouldn't you be sleeping???

It's 1:30am and again I can't sleep. I wish I could learn to turn off my mind and not think about things over and over again. I have the worst tendancy to over analyze everything in my life and after all this time I still haven't figured out how to turn it off.

The time off lately has at least been helpful for my writing. I've got a ton of new stuff (songs, poems, random writings) that I've been working on and should have some new stuff up soon. Just putting the final touches on some things.

It seems like everything lately has just been pouring out in words. I'm glad to get all the emotions I've had lately out and on paper and hopefully out of my head for a while.

Thoughts inside my head

I can’t always be the strong one
I can’t always hold a smile
If you think my tears never fall
Then darlin’ you’re living in denial

You might not see my heart break
I’ve learned to keep my distance
I’ll keep trying, cuz it’s not me who’ll travel
Through the path of least resistance

And so I’ll keep on walking
Till find that something real
My thoughts are still mine own, my love
The one thing you can’t steal

For all the new people (and older followers too I still love you!!) please let me know if there is anything you'd like to hear about or have me write about. The winter months seem to freeze my brain as well as my toes so I always welcome suggestions.

My song for 2010...

A break up letter...

Dear 2009,
I just needed you to know how glad I am that you're leaving.  It never really worked for us, from the beginning you didn't treat me well at all.  And even for those few fleeting moments when you were kind, there was always the quick slap of your meaness following quickly behind.

I glad you're leaving.  2010 is coming and I have been promised it will be better than you.  I am hanging my hopes and dreams on 2010, much the same as I did to you this time last year.  You failed me, but my faith in 2010 is unwavering.

So goodbye 2009, you will soon be a memory that will simply fade into the distance.  Like a bad dream, you can't quite remember the details of...
