I cannot wait until tomorrow night when I will be at the Boondock Saints II dvd release party here in NYC. I orginally saw that The Dirges posted they would be playing in the city and planned to attend. Then I found out it was also in conjunction with one of my all time favorite movies. A great band, a great movie, it's going to be a great night!

My Generation Series - Favorite Singer/Songwriter
1 comments Posted by WarriorHeartGypsySoul at 1/10/2010With my love for all things punk rock, my choice for best singer/songwriter of my generation may surprise you. But hands down my choice is Rob Thomas. The front man for Matchbox 20 now has a successful solo career and continues to write music for himself, MB20 as well as writing and collaborating on songs for other artists, including legends Mick Jagger and Carlos Santana.
Aside from having one of the most soulful and beautiful male vocals of my generation, in my opinion he is lyrically unmatched by his peers. They are intelligent, relatable, passionate and what can only be described as from the heart. His words are about real feelings; love, sadness, doubt, anger. There is a song that fits just about every situation we go through in life.
We often search for comfort in music, looking for that song to show us that someone else knows what we’re going through, and this is what his music offers. Not only can you find that comfort lyrically, you can feel the raw emotion that pours from his vocals giving each of his songs life.
Here is a sampling of a few of my favorite lyrics from songs written by Rob Thomas. Make sure you scroll to the bottom to view the video of my favorite RT song.
3am
she believes that life is made up of all that you're used to
and the clock on the wall has been stuck at 3 for days and days
she thinks that happiness is a mat that sits on her doorway
but outside its stopped raining
Unwell
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Her Diamonds
By the light of the moon
She rubs her eyes
Sits down on the bed and starts to cry
And there's something less about her
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
So I sit down and I cry too
But don't let her see
Mockingbird
Maybe you and me got lost somewhere
We can't move on we can't stay here
Well maybe we've just had enough
Well maybe we ain’t meant for this love
You and me tried everything
But still that mockingbird wont sing
Well man this life seems hard enough
Well maybe we ain’t meant for this love
Here is my favorite RT song. The first man to sing this to me (in key or not) I will marry on the spot! Just kidding, but I think you’ll understand what I mean when you give it a listen.

My song for 2010...
When you motor away beyond the once-red lips
When you free yourself from the chance of a lifetime
You can be anyone they told you to
You can belittle every little voice that told you so
And then the time will come when you add up the numbers
And then the time will come when you motor away
Oh, why don't you just drive away?
When you motor away down the icy streets
You can't lie to yourself that it's the chance of a lifetime
You can be anyone they told you to
You can belittle every little voice that told you so
And the time will come when you add up the numbers
And then the time will come when you motor away
Oh, why don't you just drive away?
Come on
Speed on

This may be the most beautiful song I've ever heard...
so here we are again
sleeping under bridges in the rain
under the new sky again
i hear the rumble of the train
another city to refuse
another bout of those hopeless wandering blues
you know we've still got one more chance to lose
do what's true, true to you
don't let the world tell you what to do
there's no wrong, travel on
do what's true, true to you
another corner and it's gone
but I still got a beat up guitar to play my songs
silence here is tried & true
only falsehoods would a verbal message do
and i've got nothing left to say
one hesitation would be to waste the day
onward, onward to futures
sunny & stray
do what's true, true to you
don't let the world tell you what to do
there's no wrong, travel on
do what's true, true to you
the global money market race
upon earth it brings it's own disgrace
and we stand laughing in it's face
pledging defiance to the cutthroats & the haste
with little more to survive
as we turn our paths to the side
for those that will not walk along
the road we have only pride..
outside....
so do what's true, true to you
don't let the world tell you what to do
there's no wrong, travel on
do what's true, true to you

By Social Distortion
I’m your worn in leather jacket
I’m the volume in your fucked up teenage band
A pack of smokes and a six pack
I’m the dreams you had walkin’ down the railroad tracks
You and me
I’m your first taste of romance
I’m your first broken heart on a Saturday night
Guys like us ain’t got no chance
But I’m the thing that keeps you and me alive
But not forever
So take me down the road
Take me to the show
It’s something to believe in
That no one else knows
But don’t take me for granted
I’m the blood on your guitar
I’m that wave you caught back in 1975
I’m as strong as a thousand armies
I’m as soft as a petal on a long stem rose
I am love
So take me down the road
Take me to the show
It’s something to believe in
That no one else knows
But don’t take me for granted
I’m with you when you’re born
You can take me when you die
With all the reasons why
But don’t take me for granted
No one knows
Don’t take me for granted

Faithfully ~ by Journey
Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sendin all my love
Along the wire
They say that the road
Ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line
It's been you and me
Lovin a music man
Ain't all it's supposed to be
Oh girl... you stand by me
I'm forever yours...Faithfully
Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am
Lost without you
And being apart ain't easy
On this love affair
Two strangers learn
To fall in love again
I get the joy
Of rediscovering you
Oh girl... you stand by me
I'm forever yours... Faithfully

Today's find is fresh off The Casualties' new cd, We Are All We Have. After almost 20 years together, this group still finds a way to bring a new sound without straying from their roots.Labels: Friday's Find, Music
Ya Can't Go Home ~ by Leftover Crack
It's too cold to sleep tonight
We could freeze to death I warn
It's so hard to want to fight
When you wish you were never born
This time you're gonna have to choose
You can stick with me, but you're gonna lose
But it's the same thing that I hear
Ya can't go home and ya can't stay here
Ya can't go home and ya can't stay here
And I'd do anything it takes
I wish that I could change it all
But I'll drown in the pain of my mistakes
Cause when I'm done searching, you know I'm gonna fall
We'll get a bottle to keep us warm
A little fuckin shelter from the wicked storm
But it's the same thing that I hear
Ya can't go home and ya can't stay here
Ya can't go home and ya can't stay here

I normally do not like Techno music of any kind, but I absolutely love this song.
In The Dark ~ by DJ Tiesto
When it seems like the world around you's breaking
And it feels like there's no one else around you
And it's quiet there's a silence in the darkness
And it sounds like the carnival is over
As you walk in the crowded empty spaces
And you stare at the emptiness around you
You wanna go to the city and the bright lights
Get away from the sinners that surround you
Cause I will be there and you will be there
We'll find each other in the dark
And you will see and I'll see you too
Cause we'll be together in the dark
Cause if it's coming for you then it's coming for me
Cause I will be there
Cause we need each other in the dark
And if it terrifies you then it terrifies me
Cause I will be there
So we've got each other in the dark
As I look into the sky there's sparks bright as ice
You want me to take you over there
I want you to stay with me
Cuz you're not the only one
The only one
No, no don't worry
You're not the only one
Cause if it's coming for you then it's coming for me
But I will be there
Cuz we need each other in the dark
And if it's panicking you then it's panicking me
But I will be there
So we've got each other in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
We'll need each other in the dark
In the dark
In the dark
We'll hold each other in the dark
Now we're saved together in the dark
Cause we've got each other in the dark

After a great time in Kentucky with friends Saturday, we headed back to Indy for the Social Distortion show on Sunday at the Murat Egyptian Room. This is their 30th year touring and after finally getting to see them live it is obvious why they are still around.
The show started with The Strangers and although we missed most of their songs because we were late (as always) they were good. Kind of a more rock Green Day. Next up was Civet, an all girl punk band. They were awesome, I love angry chick punk!
When Social D took the stage about 9pm there was a very diverse crowd patiently waiting. Anywhere you looked, you could see anyone from the 16 year old teenager to grandmas and grandpas ready for the show. Needless to say the show was amazing. They played a ton of classics as well as some new songs from their upcoming album. They played for over an hour and a half, but the time flew by.
If you ever have the chance to see Social D live, take it!

Well, that's all for now. Honestly I am too tired to even think of anything else right now. Just have to get through work today and get some sleep tonight.
Here's some pics from last night's show...

My summer tour officially started Saturday with the Offspring and Dropkick Murphys concert at White River Park here in Indy. All I can say is WOW!!! This may have been the best concert I have ever been to in my life!
Dropkick Murphys play the most energetic and crowd pleasing show of any band I have ever seen. And the legendary Offspring were everything you would expect them to be. The mosh pit was alive and well and the whole crowd sung along to most of the songs.
I had the absolute privilege of getting to watch part of the Offspring set on stage next to the sound guy thanks to a great friend who managed to score us backstage passes. Seeing the view of the crowd from the stage is truly an overwhelming feeling.
This was just the first show of the tour and it has already passed my expectations. I can't wait for the rest of the summer!!!
