Well it looks like everything is going to work out. After being told to basically screw off by the Vice President of the property management company, I may have gotten a little angry. I searched online and found the owner's information for my place and gave him a call. He turned out to be a really nice guy and actually listened to my concerns instead of being a total jerk about it like the other guy.
He asked me to think things over and search for a new place, then when I found something I liked call the police department and ask about their crime statistics. I haven't gotten that far yet, but last night when I ended up staying in a hotel because I was too freaked to stay in my own apartment, I realized I have to get out no matter what.
So, now on to the big challenge, finding somewhere to live! I'm hoping one of my fabulous friends will take pity on me and let me rent a room for cheap for a while so I can figure out what I'm going to do about everything.
Always a new adventure... I certainly can't say my life has been boring lately!

One suggestion - search online for the Indiana Sheriff's Department sex and violent offender registry list. You type in the address of the place that you're interested in, and it shows you little dots that represent sex and violent offenders. We did that when we moved up here, and were amazed at how many SOs and VOs lived at places that we thought looked OK. We found a place that had absolutely none, and we've been happy so far!
I hope everything works out!
You know it is time when you are too scared to be home alone. Being "home" should have a safe and secure feeling. I am glad that you are able to find that elsewhere! Good luck house hunting!
That must be a horrible feeling. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this!! I Hope you find a solution soon!!
