A look behind my eyes

The Casualties, one of the best hardcore street punk bands to come out of New York City played in Bloomington, Indiana last night. Formed in 1990, the band went through typical growing pains throughout the 90’s and found their current lineup complete in 1999. The quartet is made up of Jorge on vocals, Meggers on drums, Rick on bass and Jake on the guitar. Rick and Jake also assist with background vocals. They have been touring and recording relentlessly for the last 10 years and have amassed a following that mirrors their hard work and dedication.

We arrived at Rhino’s all-ages club expecting the concert to be a sellout. It was definitely not a sellout but there was still a good size crowd and those that did show were there for The Casualties. The Bloomington punk scene may not be huge but it is devoted and that’s why bands as big as The Casualties continue to come back and play. There were no high mohawks or liberty spikes this time, just gritty in your face punk rock and no one there would have asked for anything more.

The show opened with ‘Riot’, the perfect song to get the crowd and the pit moving. Unfortunately for my review, I am too much into the music at a concert to remember what song played when, but I do know most of my favorites were covered. Here a few for you to check out; Tomorrow Belongs to Us, System Failed Us, Unknown Soldier and my all time favorite Punk Rock Love. The night ended with their signature chant of 40 oz 40 oz 40 oz Casualty. It was a great show.

The Casualties were my introduction to hardcore punk so it’s really special for me to get to see them in concert again. Not to mention they are a tremendously cool group of guys and a ton of fun to just sit back and hang out with.

They are currently working on a new record and I cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
